Gaia McDermott was an incredible friend and colleague. She was fiercely loyal, deeply empathetic, a true public servant, and a Democrat with a capital "D." We met when she was an aide to Sen. Larson and I was in my second year working up at the Capitol full time, and struck up one of the great friendships of my adult life. We shared a love for podcasting, canvassing (I think the only type of weather we didn't knock doors in was snow), and trading stories about life at the LOB. We were also raised Irish Catholic, which provided its own shorthand.The world is less bright without her. May is #mentalhealthawarenessmonth . . . Cherish the relationships you build in the workplace, check in on your friends, and help #breakthestigma about discussing mental health.
