Black History Month (BHM) at the EUI is an initiative that comes from researchers of African descent who believe in the need to make Black European history visible, to stimulate a reflection on the notion of race and to address the structural imbalances that continue to shape the experience of Black people in Europe.https://lnkd.in/d9ecGrde

I appreciated this thoughtful essay by Jemar Tisby, on how to reflect and engage deeply with Black History Month. I encourage you to read the article, but I'll summarize the first few points. 1) go to a museum alone, and take your time. 2) read a whole book on some aspect of Black history. 3) ask a family member or friend to tell you about their experience in this time period. How do you plan to engage Black History Month for the next few weeks?

For me Black History is every day. My visibility or histories are not only important for 28 days but everyday. So when many are now interested in "Black History and Black contribution " for 28 days ask yourself what do you do after February?do our existence and contribution to humanity start in February and end in February? how does BHM change your structures? how do you treat your BIPOC's after BHM?#BlackHistory365#

How are you building black history into your curriculum design? 4⃣ tips :1. Self reflection and training. Make sure you use inclusive language. Be ready to be uncomfortable in order to be comfortable. 2. Engage all the way across your organisation from CEO to all staff. 3. This is not a tick box and not just one month activity and initiative so embed activities across the year. 4. Ask for help, work with those who have experience and can share ideas. Read more from Ellisha Soanes (She/Her) tips at the Education and Training Foundation#blackhistorymonth
