Remember, the 415 bump includes tax savings so it's an almost $470 value.

Good deal.

Good deal.

Possibly, but you’re still going to have to pay another $530+ tax for the upgrade plus buying a separate disc drive which is an additional cost. I can’t fathom the majority of people getting any value out of this when it’s pretty much just about the improvement in how the graphics come across.

There are people who care about the power, not everyone cares as much but those that do have an option. I would think almost anyone who would bother buying an Oled tv (or similar) would love to have a pro over the og model. It’s expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I also think if someone was just given a pro, they would definitely see the value. You don’t really get the full picture watching YouTube videos. For me, the first game I’m playing is dragons dogma 2; the frame rate and overall graphical stability are much improved.

All that said, I’m on a forum where many people can’t understand why people got the ps5 instead of just keeping the 4, I can’t convince those folks of anything really.

Personally I also traded in all my disk games, I have most of the digitally anyway. The writing is on the wall, disk drives will be gone soon. Consoles won’t keep them around much longer when no other devices use them. You will end up having to keep old hardware to use disks, and most people just don’t do that. Disks will be a collector only thing in a few years. I already have a really hard time getting physical copies of games that aren’t huge hits now, and it’s getting worse.

For context, nxganer has measured that the pro is getting 4070 super performance. A 4070 super goes for $840 and up alone. Throw in 2 tb of Nvme storage, and the ps5 pro is already priced well for what it is imo.

Hix... x1S is $100 after bonus and my ps4 gets $130 after the bonus. Should probably keep since it's got better value due to low firmware. Also still useful as a secondary device to stream/remote play in 2nd room or something.

Having a choice is almost always better than not having one.
In this case, this is likely targeting folks that were already planning to upgrade, they get to save a little extra if the plan was to go through GameStop.
This likely won’t convince anyone that was sitting by the fence.
It’s certainly a luxury item from a traditional console viewpoint. However, value wise, Sony isn’t really going after the traditional console player, they are going after some of the PC market. There’s definitely a value conversation to be had in that case.

Happy gaming!

When they launched the ps4 pro they actually explained who this is for. Late in the ps3 life a portion of their user base switched to pc. This is when many third party games started to struggle. This portion of the user base buys many games and Sony doesn’t want to lose them.

This is a good deal for those who have a PS5 already AND were planning to upgrade anyway. Thanks for posting

However as for the console and pricing itself, the console is both irrelevant and overpriced for upwards of 90% of users. Unless you are a power user, most people simply won't notice enough of a difference for it to be near worth it

This is coming from someone who had at least 3 different PS4 versions, including the pro. I recently bought a 65" OLED and won't be considering this console as OP alluded to, but did say almost all so they're in the clear [Gamestop.ca] PS5 Pro trade bump at GameStop, $100 extra for PS5 with disk - RedFlagDeals.com Forums (2)

In my opinion Sony has been anti-consumer and overpriced since they changed PS+. I have not renewed after being subbed consistently for a decade. The launch of this console has solidified my decision that my next big gaming purchase will either be back to PC or the Switch 2

People said the same about the ps4 pro, also without actually ever using it. Just for context. It does matter what you play though, I don’t think Roblox will be much different. When gta vi comes out, I think that’s the software that will convince everyone that this console is at least worth it. Pc gamers already have a good idea what to expect, we already understand the necessary context of what this hardware is.

Yes just like in the PC world why would anyone buy anything other than the cheapest gpu because all the more expensive ones do is improve the graphics. What an odd argument.

What does it matter if we are still playing games that are supposed to also run on PS4?

I want to explain it to you, but I don’t think I can. You don’t care how games run or look at all? If they run they run and that’s it? Personally I was playing the monster hunter wild beta, in performance mode it’s blurry af on even the ps5, I imagine a ps4 version wouldnt even hit 30 fps most of the time.

I don’t think this will sell well. Bad economy, no drive, high price, low gain. We’ll see, but I suspect a loss for Sony.

less than I was hoping (was assuming $100 per console), weird that it applies to an Xbox One but not a Series S.

I guess no PS5 Pro for me lol

I ordered one because I can and because I wanted to. I'll be disassembling this console before I even turn it on so I can understand better in the future how to take it apart properly rather than watch a video on it as I service a lot of PS5 consoles. Fingers crossed they use the same HDMI Ports on them [Gamestop.ca] PS5 Pro trade bump at GameStop, $100 extra for PS5 with disk - RedFlagDeals.com Forums (5)

But I have a slim w/ a disc drive. What I'm going to do is take the disc drive and cover plate from my slim and put it on the pro, and assuming just the digital plate for where the disc drive goes on the pro will fit the slim (it makes sense in my mind) I'll put that on my slim and sell the slim privately.

Everyone says that about everything and they're usually completely wrong. There's a reason why the bluray drive sku is constantly out of stock.

Also remember it's coming up to the christmas season and the whole covid shortage chip shortage bs is a thing of the past. Sony is doing this right and making alot of them. When I went to pre order mine the morning pre orders opened there were at least 15 other people and the other gamestop I was at to grab something else had another 15-20 people waiting in line. And that's just an in-store thing as they told alot of people they won't get many of them (which they were wrong).

I read the face plates are different so that may cause a challenge. Just a heads up for considerations.
